Boasting the best qualities of laminate and stone (along with its own special features), quartz began appearing in the past decade. Today, quartz countertops are exploding in popularity.
Although some quartz countertops
are actually made of quarried slabs of the natural stone, the new
engineered material is actually created through a manufacturing process
that mixes approximately 95 percent ground natural quartz with 5 percent
polymer resins. The result is a super-hard, low-maintenance, natural
stone-look countertop available in a dazzling array of colors. And for
many of the clients choosing quartz, the virtually unlimited colour
options is what sold them.
Although there are many colors on the market, quartz does not have
the natural flow and uniquely formed combinations that granite and other
natural stone can offer. It offers more control over your final colour
design in exchange for the striking, free-flowing patterns found in
other natural stone. Quartz also cannot offer the same range of
finishes available from travertine, marble, or granite, as it is
confined to either a polished or honed in nearly every case.
